Dr. Michael Bridge
University of Utah School HSC Core Facilities - Cell Imaging Lab, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Specimen: Eye organ of a Drosophila melanogaster (third-instar larvae) (60x) Technique: Confocal Muszka owocowa, wywilżna karłowata, wywilżnia, wywilżanka, drozofila, octówka(Drosophila melanogaster) – niewielki owad (wielkości 2–3 mm) z rzędu muchówek.

Cacoxenite (18x) | Maj 25, 2013, 01:27:19 pm | 703
Mr. Honorio Cocera-La Parra
Museo Geologia, Universidad Valencia - Benetusser, Valencia, Spain Specimen: Cacoxenite (18x) Technique: Transmited Light Cacoxenite is an iron aluminium phosphate mineral with formula: Fe3+24Al(PO4)17O6(OH)12·17(H2O). It is associated with iron ores. The name comes from the Greek κăκός for "bad" or "evil" and ξένος for "guest" because the phosphorus content of cacoxenite lessens the quality of iron smelted from ore containing it. It was first described in 1825 for an occurrence in the Hrbek Mine, Bohemia, Czech Republic. It occurs as a secondary phase in oxidized magnetite and limonite deposits. It also occurs in novaculites and in iron and phosphorus rich sediments. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cacoxenite |

Ciliated protozoa (1700x) | Maj 25, 2013, 01:59:01 pm | 712
Dr. Dylan Burnette
National Institute of Child Health and Human Disease - National Institutes of Health - Bethesda, Maryland, USA Specimen: Ciliated protozoa (1700x) Technique: Confocal The ciliates are a group of protozoans characterized by the presence of hair-like organelles called cilia, which are identical in structure to eukaryotic flagella, but typically shorter and present in much larger numbers with a different undulating pattern than flagella. Cilia occur in all members of the group (although the peculiar Suctoria only have them for part of the life-cycle) and are variously used in swimming, crawling, attachment, feeding, and sensation. Ciliates are one of the most important groups of protists, common almost everywhere there is water — in lakes, ponds, oceans, rivers, and soils. Ciliates have many ectosymbiotic and endosymbiotic members, as well as some obligate and opportunistic parasites. Ciliates are large single cells, a few reaching 2 mm in length, and are some of the most complex protozoans in structure. The term "Ciliophora" is used in classification as a phylum. Ciliophora can be classified under Protista or Protozoa. The term "Ciliata" is also used,as a class. (However, this latter term can also refer to a type of fish.) Protista classification is rapidly evolving, and it is not rare to encounter these terms used to describe other hierarchical levels. |

Harold Taylor

Portrait of a Green lacewing (Chrysopa spec.) larva | Maj 25, 2013, 11:36:59 am | 753
Green lacewings are insects in the large family Chrysopidae of the order Neuroptera. There are about 85 genera and (differing between sources) 1,300–2,000 species in this widespread group. Members of the genera Chrysopa and Chrysoperla are very common in North America and Europe; they are very similar[1] and many of their species have been moved from one genus to the other time and again, and in the non-scientific literature assignment to Chrysopa and Chrysoperla can rarely be relied upon. Since they are the most familiar neuropterids to many people, they are often simply called "lacewings". But actually most of the diversity of Neuroptera are properly referred to as some sort of "lacewing", so common lacewings is preferable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysopidae

Obejmuje on mózgu i móżdżku , i dzieli się na lewej i prawej półkuli. Kora mózgowa odgrywa kluczową rolę w pamięci , uwagi , percepcji świadomości , myśli , język i świadomość .

Ciemne pole – technika obserwacji w mikroskopii, służąca do zwiększenia kontrastu w niebarwionych preparatach.

Promienice, radiolarie (Radiolaria) – gromada promienionóżek obejmująca kilka tysięcy gatunków, żyjących wyłącznie w planktonie mórz o pełnym zasoleniu, zasiedlając wszystkie warstwy wód do głębokości 5 tysięcy metrów.

Blue morpho butterfly egg
Morpho peleides The red band signals a chemical reaction that follows fertilization. Inside the egg is the germ of a blue morpho, one of the world's largest butterflies, with a wingspan of five to eight inches. Exquisite Castaways Engineered for survival, insect eggs hang on and hatch wherever their parents deposit them. The eggs in this story range in diameter from 0.7 to 2 millimeters. The images were made with a scanning electron microscope, which uses beams of electrons to trace the surfaces of objects.
